More on the Amy shrug…

Posted on: January 4, 2011

As I mentioned, I had to buy 6 more skeins of the Berrocco Ultra Silk. The color I’m using is several shades lighter than the shrug in the picture I posted yesterday. My color is more of a lavender.

I searched the web and actually located several sources for the discontinued yarn. I bought the additional six balls of yarn from a very nice company – who shall remain nameless until I finish my project. (I may need more of the yarn!)

I have passed the half-way mark on this shrug! If I haven’t already said so, this is physically the largest project I’ve knit. I certainly have never had a pattern that called for 16 balls of yarn before.

I’m looking forward to doing the back pattern band on the shrug. It’s knit separately and won’t be so – not heavy exactly, but with over half of the shrug done it’s just cumbersome. Sort of puts me in mind of knitting a blanket.

Here’s what the pattern baA close-up look at the Amy shrug border.nd looks like. It’s quite pretty and I expect it to roll nicely for the collar.

I find I like doing openwork, although it seems to take me awhile to get the hang of intricate stitch work. It’s common for me to redo the start of a piece like this a number of times. Basically, I treat it like a big swatch;-} One for stitch comprehension instead of stitch count.

I think my next post will have to be about the sweater I started at the same time I started this shrug. The remaining portion of finishing the shrug is likely to be mind-numbing until I get to the back pattern band!
